About
Milim Kim

Hello, I am Milim Kim. I hold the Certificate of Korean Language Teacher (Level 2) from the National Institute of Korean Language (Korea, 2020) and have over five years of experience teaching Korean as a private tutor, working with more than 50 students.

Before moving to the UK in 2012, I worked for over eight years as an English teacher at middle schools in Korea after passing the Gyeonggi-do Secondary Teacher Employment Examination. I also studied Education and Second Language Teaching at university. This background helps me support students in learning Korean effectively and improving their communication skills with confidence.

I have taught a wide range of learners from diverse cultural backgrounds, including secondary school students and full-time professionals, through tailored one-to-one lessons and engaging group classes.

My lessons range from beginner to advanced levels and include learner-motivation-centred curricula as well as systematic preparation for TOPIK I and TOPIK II.

I look forward to continuing to provide meaningful and fruitful learning experiences for students in the future.

Teaching Method & Philosophy

1. Learner-centred teaching and learning tailored to developing practical communication skills

  • Beginner level: Based on a foundation course focusing on the Korean alphabet and phonics, building sentence structures to develop basic communication skills such as self-introduction, polite requests, asking questions, and describing weekend activities.
  • Intermediate level: Practising authentic communication through a variety of topics using compound and complex sentences.
  • Advanced level: Expanding vocabulary and grammar from everyday topics to current affairs and general knowledge.

2. Use of a variety of learner-engaging materials to support learning

Language input can be more effectively transformed into language acquisition when meaningful and authentic stimuli are integrated into the learning process. To facilitate this, vocabulary and sentence structures are selected in line with the learner’s communicative goals.

3. Integration of social and cultural aspects reflected in language

When learning a completely new language, understanding why it is used in a particular way within the society where it is spoken helps learners learn more easily and makes the learning process more interesting. During lessons, learners are also encouraged to explore the unique features of Korean within its social and cultural contexts.

Teaching Materials

Based on the learner’s level, the Sejong Korean textbook published by the National Institute of the Korean Language will be used as the main material. In addition, the tutor provides lesson notes for each chapter, including additional explanations and vocabulary lists, and short video clips for the lesson.

"Thanks to my lessons with Milim, my confidence in speaking Korean has grown significantly! Perhaps because of her background as a former school teacher, she explains complex grammar in a very easy, structured, and tailored way. I truly look forward to our lessons every week."

- John (UK, Office Worker)

"She completely resolved the difficulties I had with Korean particles and subtle nuances that were so hard to understand when studying alone. The fact that she can communicate effortlessly in English thanks to her long-term residency in the UK is also a massive advantage!"

- Sarah (Student, TOPIK Preparation)

"I took her lessons because I needed Business Korean, and it was incredibly helpful as she taught me real-world workplace expressions that aren't found in standard textbooks. I highly recommend her as a tutor."

- David (Marketer)
